MCD election 2022: Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi’s party AIMIM and Bhim Army’s Chandrashekhar Azad’s Azad Samaj Party have announced to contest the Delhi Municipal Corporation (MCD) elections together. Both the parties will field candidates under alliance in 100 wards of Delhi and their main focus will be in Muslim and Dalit dominated areas of Delhi. After the announcement made by these two parties on Friday, the equation of MCD elections can change a lot.

Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi’s party All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen and Azad Samaj Party have announced to field an alliance candidate for the Delhi Municipal Corporation elections. Under this, Owaisi’s party will field its candidates in 68 wards and Chandrashekhar’s party in 32 wards. Announcing the alliance and seat tally, AIMIM’s Delhi unit president Kalmul Hafeez said, “The decision to contest the MCD polls together has been approved by the chiefs of both the parties, Asaduddin Owaisi and Chandrashekhar Azad.”

Keeping an eye on Dalit-Muslim vote bank
He said both the BJP and the Aam Aadmi Party have “completely ignored” the areas in Delhi where Muslims and Dalits live. Muslims constitute 15 per cent and Dalits 16 per cent of the total population of Delhi. Azad Samaj Party’s Delhi incharge Bhiku Ram Jain said that if Muslims and Dalits come together, no political party will be able to ignore them. He said, ‘The Morcha will fight the MCD elections with full force and will teach a befitting lesson to both the BJP and the Aam Aadmi Party, who have cheated the public. ,

Such can be the distribution of seats
Owaisi’s party will try to field its candidates in areas where the Muslim vote is high – such as Okhla, Matia Mahal, Seelampur, Mustafabad, Ballimaran, Babarpur, Sadar Bazar and other Muslim areas. In Delhi, 12 assembly seats are reserved for Scheduled Castes. These include areas like Mangolpuri, Sultanpur Majra, Karol Bagh, Patel Nagar, Madipur, Devli, Ambedkar Nagar. Azad Samaj Party is likely to field its candidates in the wards falling in these areas.

MCD elections will be held on December 4
It is clear that the MCD’s fight has become interesting with the announcement made by these two parties to contest the elections under the alliance. After re-uniting the three municipal corporations of Delhi, the total number of wards is 250. Voting for the Delhi Municipal Corporation elections will be held on December 4. The counting of votes will take place on December 7. A total of 42 out of 250 wards have been reserved for candidates belonging to the Scheduled Castes.
