‘My heart sank after reading the mail’
Indian-origin Anneka Patel was a communications manager at Meta Company and is now among 11,000 employees who have been laid off. Aneka Patel shared her story on LinkedIn, saying, ‘I am currently on maternity leave and woke up around 3 in the morning to feed my three-month-old daughter. When I checked the mail at 5:35 am, it came to know that I have been fired. My heart sank after reading the mail.’
‘What will I do next, difficult to answer’
Aneka Patel said, ‘I had heard about the company doing layoffs and that’s why I checked my mail. Now it is very difficult for me to answer what I will do next. My maternity leave is about to end in February and these initial months are very challenging for me. During this time I would have to see all this too, did not think that.
Aneka joined Meta in May 2020
Let us tell you that Aneka Patel is not alone, but there are many others who have fallen victim to Twitter and Meta’s layoff policy in their difficult circumstances. In the midst of the Kovid epidemic, when people were imprisoned in their homes and there was a huge increase in online traffic, Meta recruited people in the company on a large scale and at the same time in May 2020 also, Aneka Patel got a job in Meta. But, now the company says that it is at a loss and hence is cutting staff.
‘I will think of a job after the new year’
Aneka Patel further said, ‘I had shifted from my London home to America for a job in Meta. Now for the next few months, I will give all my time just to my daughter and after the new year I will think of a job. Another employee Himanshu V also told that he had shifted from India to Canada after getting a job in Meta.

‘Meta cut 13% staff’
Himanshu wrote in his LinkedIn post, ‘With new career hopes, I came to Canada for a job in Meta and after two days of joining my dream was shattered, because I too fell victim to the company’s layoff policy. My heart is thinking of all those people who are going through this difficult situation like me. It is worth noting that while Meta has cut its staff by 13 percent, while Twitter has fired about 50 percent people from the company.
