HYDERABAD: BRS MLC Kavitha on Sunday demanded from the Center that the Medaram Sammakka-Sarakka Jatara, one of the biggest tribal gatherings in Asia, be accorded national status. Minister Satyavati Rathore, Telangana Vikalangula Cooperative Corporation President Dr. Kethireddy Vasudeva Reddy and others on a visit to the Ramappa temple in Mulugu K Kavitha said that Ramappa was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to the efforts of the Telangana government .

Kavita further explained that we cannot change anything in the temple as it is an ASI protected monument and UNESCO site. But the state government will definitely develop the surrounding. Talking about the development of Mulugu district and its uniqueness, he said that Medaram Sammakka-Sarakka Jatara should be given national status.

He said that, since the formation of Telangana state, the government sanctioned Rs 100 crore to the Medaram Jatara. It also developed the Sammakka Barrage (Thupkulagudem Barrage) and began work on strengthening the banks of the Godavari River to protect low-lying areas from flooding.

He said that the district has been re-selected for the implementation of nutrition kit programme. The BRS MLC also criticized the Center for not setting up a tribal university though the state government had allotted land. Earlier, he garlanded Professor Jaishankar’s statue and participated in a rally along with Minister Satyavati Rathod and local MLA G Venkatraman Reddy.
