New Delhi, 09 June : Monsoon has started. Farmers are busy making necessary preparations in their fields for cultivation. There are also reports of scattered rain from some areas. Meanwhile, discussions are also taking place among people on how it will rain in the monsoon. To avoid the apprehensions, farmers can be free from the problems of irrigation by taking initiative to save rain water. The government is also helping farmers to take measures to save rain water. Know what can be the irrigation options to produce a great crop in agriculture? Also understand that how the government is helping the farmers by saving rain water?

good rain forecast
In fact, about the monsoon of 2022, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that this time there may be bumper rains. On the basis of IMD’s forecast, scientists believe that if the farmers do rain water harvesting, then their farms as well as the large population living in cities will also benefit.
water shortage
Significantly, due to the ever-increasing population and playing with the environment, the concerns related to global warming are deepening. A huge population is facing the problem of water. Even drinking water has to be brought by walking miles away. In such a situation, there is an urgent need to take measures so that there is no shortage of water in villages and cities.
rain water saving
In summer, the consumption of water increases anyway, but in areas where water is not enough, measures to save rain water can be effective. That is, rainwater harvesting can solve the problem of farmers as well as a large number of common people. It is not hidden from anyone that the ground water level is depleting due to the ever-expanding concrete forests. Groundwater is not recharging. Due to deep boring, the water level is going into the abyss. Even after boring of 300-400 feet, there is no trace of water in many areas. In such a critical situation, the technique of rain water harvesting can prove to be very good.
Paddy cultivation in Punjab with less water
Help is also being given by the government on adopting rainwater harvesting technology. People are being motivated to save rain water by running awareness programs. After the onset of monsoon in rural areas, preparations are being made for the sowing of Kharif season crops. The second week of June has already started. In such a situation, the question of irrigation of crops in the coming time is enough to bring strength on the forehead of the farmers. However, in a state like Punjab, emphasis is being laid on cultivating paddy with DSR technology, which requires less water, but looking into the future, farmer brothers are encouraged to reduce water consumption with the technology of rainwater harvesting. Apart from this, arrangements should be made for irrigation by rain water only.
How will farmers get help from the government
The Ministry of Jal Shakti, Government of India is trying to make people aware to save rain water. For this ‘Catch the Rain campaign’ is also being run. The purpose of this campaign is to store rain water in ponds or other water bodies. Once the water is stored, it can be used for infrastructure development or building construction. Apart from this, in the areas where there is no pond or reservoir, exercise is also being done to excavate the check dam or reservoir, build other water bodies like ponds. Its sole purpose is to conserve rain water to the maximum.
The connection of ‘Catch the Rain’ and MGNREGA
Let us inform that amidst the challenges arising out of the Kovid-19 epidemic, the ‘Catch the Rain’ campaign remained in the headlines. This campaign has also achieved remarkable success in many areas. Villagers are being given employment under the Mahatma Gandhi Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGA) of the Ministry of Rural Development. Projects related to rain water harvesting are being run in villages. Apart from making ponds and check dams to store rain water, farmer brothers are being encouraged for diversification of crops i.e. cultivation of crops other than traditional crops. These crops require comparatively less irrigation. There is also good profit in the market. One gets almost the same amount of money as income from crops like paddy, maize or millet.
How will it rain in monsoon?
Let us inform that the Meteorological Department has forecast torrential rains in the monsoon of 2022. In such a situation, if the common people along with the farmers work on the rain water harvesting technique – rainwater harvesting, then apart from the rural population, urban areas can also benefit. Along with this, a permanent solution can be found to get rid of the problem of irrigation in agriculture. Rethinking the choice of crops can also reduce the water consumption in agriculture. That is, by saving running water, farmers will be able to stop the flow of money and thus both their income and profits will increase.
