Himanta Biswa Sarma on Madrassas:
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma attends the inauguration ceremony of light-and-sound show on Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in Belagavi, Karnataka. During this he said that there is no need of madrasas in new India. Assam needs schools, colleges and universities to prepare doctors, engineers and other professionals to serve the state and the country. There is no need for religious education in our state. We have already closed many madrassas.
Let us tell you that the BJP government of Assam had closed about 600 madrasas last year. The state-run madrassas were closed, while the madrassas run by private organizations were abandoned. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that I come from Assam, which faces the threat of infiltration from Bangladesh every day. He said that this is a threat to our culture and traditions. We have to change our education system. CM Sarma said that the time has come to rewrite our history in a new way.
During the program, he also targeted the Congress. He accused the Congress of representing the ‘new Mughals’. He said that earlier the Mughal invaders tried to weaken the country, whereas Congress is now doing this work. He said that Congress does not talk about Ram Mandir but about Babri Masjid.
