Bhubaneswar, 23 September: Authorities in Odisha on Wednesday did not allow Suresh Chavhanke, editor-in-chief of Sudarshan TV, to meet Dara Singh. Dara Singh is serving a life sentence for three murders related to the 1999 murder of Australian missionary Graham Staines and his two children. Suresh Chavhanke reached Odisha’s Bhubaneswar on Tuesday on a two-day tour, sitting on a dharna outside the Kendujhar district jail on Wednesday against the decision of the Odisha government. Suresh Chavhanke claimed that he was cleared to meet Dara Singh, but jail officials told him on Wednesday that he could not meet him.
He said that this tour was done in his personal capacity. Suresh Chavhanke said, “We had given an application to the government 15 days back and they had agreed. But today when I came, the jail authorities refused to let me meet him even though he had taken a copy of my Aadhar card. This is a violation of our human rights. We want to meet Dara Singh and this is a violation of our democratic rights. That is why I am sitting in protest and will not go till I meet him.
