Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik is set to embark on a foreign trip later this month. This will be his second foreign visit after assuming the office of Chief Minister on 5 March 2000. Official sources said Patnaik will visit the UAE and Rome to attend a series of events, including an industrial and investors’ meet.
He is scheduled to leave the state capital on June 28. The CM is also likely to meet Odia expatriates in Gulf and European countries during his visit. Naveen, who frequented western countries before making his political debut in 1997, refrained from traveling abroad after becoming chief minister.
He made his first foreign visit since taking over as the Chief Minister of Odisha during an eight-day visit to the UK in May 2012. He had visited abroad at the invitation of the Department of International Development (DFID), which supported Odisha in dealing with it.
He is to travel to England to consult with his representatives and experts on malnutrition, the government’s initiatives to modernize and improve the education of scheduled caste and scheduled tribe girls, official sources said.
