Odisha Department of Fisheries, ARD and United Nations World Food Program (WFP) today launched a mobile application “Secure Fishing App”. It was launched under the chairmanship of Agriculture Minister Ranendra Pratap Swain at an event in the state capital Bhubaneswar.
The application, developed by WFP in collaboration with the Government of Odisha, seeks to empower fishermen by providing real-time information, insights and analytics that directly contribute to their livelihood and thus the vision of the state government.
Minister Ranendra Pratap said that we are very excited about this partnership with the World Food Programme. The Safe Fishing app focuses on coastal fishing communities to improve their safety, resilience and daily catch. Because they are among the most vulnerable groups. The application will also be very useful for fisheries department officials.
Bisho Parjuli, WFP’s representative and director in the country, said it is a fact that climate variability is adding further uncertainty to the nutritional and food security challenges for fishermen. It is a strategic partnership that will directly contribute to strengthening resilience by harnessing knowledge and technology while achieving livelihoods.
