Odisha government aims at holistic development, providing all-weather rural connectivity

The Odisha government has increased the budget provision for the road scheme to Rs 7500.00 crore, which is an increase of 35.57% over the 2019-20 budget.

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik is committed to the socio-economic development of the people of the state, especially those living in rural Odisha, through the construction of all-weather roads and bridges. The state government believes that this will enhance the economic status and overall development of the rural people.
Odisha Rural Development Minister Preetiranjan Gharei said, “The department is providing better all-round connectivity to unconnected habitations in rural areas by constructing roads and bridges under state sponsored flagship programs like Mukhyamantri Sadak Yojana (MMSY) and Biju Setu Yojana (BSY) Is.’
Addressing the media at Geeta Gobind Sadan today, Pritiranjan Gharei said that the budget provision has been increased to Rs 7500.00 crore, which is 35.57% more than the budget for 2019-20.
He said, ‘Till now the department has constructed 1254 bridges under BSY and another 900 bridges are in various stages of execution. Along with this, there is a program of construction of 526 new bridges with an outlay of Rs.1900.00 crore during 2023-24. The department has envisaged construction of 100 bridge-cum-weir projects with an outlay of Rs.50.00 crore for recharge of ground water and inflow storage of runoff water. Out of these, 32 in-stream structures have been completed so far.
