Odisha government to cover 21 more cities under ‘Drink from Tap’ mission

The Odisha government has set a target of covering 40 lakh more households across 21 cities and towns by March 2024 under its ‘Drink from Tap’ mission. State Housing and Urban Development (H&UD) minister Usha Devi in her post-budget briefing said that the state government has kept a provision of Rs 2,400 crore in its budget for the implementation of the mission.
Usha Devi informed that this is a part of 5T initiative and aims to bring water supply service standards in urban areas of Odisha at par with international cities. Puri and Gopalpur have become the first two cities in India to achieve this feat under the mission.
Usha Devi further said, the implementation of the ‘Drink from Tap’ mission will be completed by June 2023 in Berhampur and by December 2023 in cities like Bhubaneswar, Cuttack and Rourkela. All five corporations – Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Berhampur, Sambalpur and Rourkela have already achieved 100 per cent household tap connections, while another 30 cities will achieve this by December 2023.
