The community participation model initiated by Odisha has been appreciated by national and international agencies across the world.
Community participation Odisha government has taken a big step to empower the poor and vulnerable. Keeping this in mind, the state government has launched 26,691 missions as supervision charges (incentives) to strengthen community participation in various areas such as: Mukta, Aahar, Jalsathi, solid waste management, shelters for the urban homeless, building units 100 crore has been provided to Shakti groups.
As part of community empowerment and institution building, around 50,000 Mission Shakti Groups have been formed and priority has been given to engage in several activities and Odisha has emerged as a leading state in this regard.
To further strengthen the initiative, emphasis has been laid on involving the community at every stage of planning and coordination as this is the key to ensure the success of any initiative. Further, community participation has been given top priority as it creates an environment of accountability and transparency at the ULB level as part of the grassroots administration.
To widen the platform of MSG engagement, the state government has already taken up faecal sludge treatment plants, community toilets, and rental housing complexes, parks, etc. in urban areas as a decisive step to enhance the livelihood of poor and vulnerable women. MSG is involved in taking care of operation and maintenance.
The community partnership initiative has indeed set a new benchmark in setting trends on ways to come out of the vicious cycle of poverty. The community participation model initiated by Odisha has been appreciated by national and international agencies across the globe.
In addition, the Odisha model of community-driven empowerment initiatives with a focus on gender sensitivity by involving Mission Shakti members in flagship programs is a powerful model for other states across the country to take similar steps and take advantage of the inclusion of women in each emerged as an example.
