Odisha News: Odisha will honor Thomas Cup winner Indian badminton team
Bhubaneswar, June 08:
Odisha is going to felicitate the Thomas Cup winning Indian badminton team tomorrow. The felicitation ceremony will take place on Wednesday at 5 pm at the New Convention Center, Lok Seva Bhavan in Bhubaneswar. India won the title by defeating 14-time Thomas Cup winners Indonesia.
The Department of Sports and Youth Affairs, Government of Odisha will organize a felicitation ceremony at Lokseva Bhawan. Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik will be present on the occasion to felicitate each player. The entire Indian badminton team that won the Thomas Cup along with former badminton player Pullela Gopichand in Odisha will be felicitated on the occasion.
Earlier, the Badminton Association of India (BAI) had handed over a prize money of Rs 1 crore to the Indian men’s team that won the historic title at the Thomas Cup Finals in Bangkok. BAI gave a prize money of Rs 1 crore to the Indian team while Rs 20 lakh to the support staff.
