Today i.e. a day before the Republic Day, the Padma Awards were announced. This time 106 celebrities are to be honored with the Padma Awards. On the strength of their efficiency, personalities who have hoisted the flag in the country or abroad or who have done some excellent work for the society, are honored with this award. What is Padma Award?
Padma Awards i.e. Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri are among the highest awards of the country. Since 1954, they are announced every year on the special occasion of Republic Day. The government has been giving the Bharat Ratna and Padma Vibhushan awards since 1954. Padma Vibhushan had three categories – first, second and third. But the names of these classes were later changed. A notification was issued on 8 January 1955, after which these classes were renamed as Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri.
Who gets this honor?
Padma Awards ie Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri are among the highest awards of the country. These awards are announced every year. These awards are given to those who have achieved extraordinary achievements in many fields such as arts, literature and education, sports, medicine, social work and science and do some special work. These awards are divided into three categories – Padma Vibhushan (for exceptional and distinguished service), Padma Bhushan (for distinguished service of a high order) and Padma Shri (for distinguished service).
What do the honorees get?
The Padma Awards ceremony is held every year at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. During this, a certificate and medal with a seal is given to the personalities honored with the Padma Award. Along with this, celebrities are also given a replica of their medal, which they can wear at any function. According to the Ministry of Home Affairs, this is not a title that the winner can use before or after his name.

When are the awards announced?
The number of names for the Padma award should not exceed 120. However, if awards given posthumously and to foreigners are included, the number may exceed 120. Usually these awards are not given posthumously. The Padma Awards are announced every year on the occasion of Republic Day.
