Amaravati, November 17- A meeting of the Aqua Empowered Committee of Ministers, headed by Energy Minister Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy, was held at his camp office here on Wednesday. The committee stressed that the government will provide a handholding to the aqua sector to enable it to recover from the crisis. The Ministers underlined the need for better coordination between aqua farmers, processing units, seed and feed manufacturers to give a boost to the aqua sector. Stating that Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy constituted an empowered committee to address issues related to aqua sector, he stressed the need for constant monitoring of aqua product prices. The authorities should resolve the issues in consultation with the management of aqua farmers and processing units. AP has a better mechanism to monitor the prices of aqua seed, feed and quality of products.
The prices of aqua products have come down in the state due to price fluctuations in the international markets. Therefore, the authorities should focus on storage and find out ways to stabilize the prices of aqua products, the committee said. Informing that they are taking all measures to ensure minimum support price to aqua farmers, the officials informed the committee that standard operating procedures have been developed relating to prices of seed, feed and aqua products. Apart from uploading the prices on the portal of the department, the prices of aqua products in different states of the country as well as in the international market are being monitored. Stating that the traders are fixing the prices of aqua products as per the market trend, the officials said that the price of 100 count prawns was fixed at Rs 210 per kg after consultation with the traders.
