new price of petrol diesel
After the increase in the price of petroleum products, now the price of petrol in Pakistan has gone up to Rs 209.86 a liter, the price of diesel to Rs 204.15. The Finance Minister of Pakistan acknowledged that the lower-income section of the society would be most affected as a result of the hike in petrol prices, but told the Pakistani public that the rate of oil in the international market is also skyrocketing. Responding to a question, the finance minister said he was hopeful of reaching an agreement with the IMF in June, but added that there were some reforms that the government still had to do. He said that, ‘…Kerosene oil is the only commodity which is not harming the government. However, we are incurring a loss of Rs 8 on light diesel, Rs 9 on petrol and Rs 23 on high speed diesel.”

Pakistan fulfills the conditions of IMF
The Finance Minister of Pakistan said that, ‘IMF wants to see our budget, so the reforms we want to introduce will be presented before the budget. However, we are talking to the IMF on a daily basis. The government had reduced the prices of petrol by breaking the conditions of the IMF, after which the IMF refused to give the next installment of the loan to Pakistan.

What did Pakistan say on Russian oil?
When the Finance Minister of Pakistan was asked, why did Pakistan not buy oil from Russia at a discount? So Pakistan’s Finance Minister Ismail said that, Russia had never talked about selling petrol to Pakistan at a cheap rate, the previous Imran Khan government has made a false claim about Russian oil in front of the people. Ismail said that a day after Imran Khan ended his visit to Russia, no newspaper mentioned Islamabad’s deal with Moscow. He said that, if such a deal was done, “there must be some mention of it in some newspaper or the other.” The Pakistani Finance Minister said that former Energy Minister Hammad Azhar had written a letter to the Russian authorities about Pakistan’s desire to import oil from Moscow. However, there was no response from Russia to the letter of the former Finance Minister of Pakistan. The Finance Minister of Pakistan said that, we had also contacted with Russia through diplomatic channels regarding cheap oil, but they did not respond to our proposal.
