Players like Rohit Sharma will not play every series, Rahul Dravid explains the reason
New Delhi, June 8:
India head coach Rahul Dravid on Tuesday said it is important to manage the workload of players like Rohit Sharma in all formats. Dravid said there is a very frank conversation between him, the selectors and the players and it is important that players like Rohit, Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah are on top of their form and fitness in major tournaments.
Rohit Sharma was appointed as India’s all-format captain last year but the captain will not be available for the upcoming 5-match T20I series against South Africa. Along with Rohit, the selectors have also rested Kohli and Bumrah from the T20I series. All three will join the Test squad for the one-off Test against England in July.
KL Rahul will lead India in Rohit Sharma’s absence, while Rishabh Pant has been named the vice-captain for the 18-man squad.

Talking to the press ahead of the first T20 match, Dravid said, “It is not difficult at all. Rohit and I are in touch.”
“(KL) Rahul has captained before, we are clear on a lot of things. Rohit is one of our players across all formats and it is not fair to expect such players to be available for every series.”
“We need to make sure they are fit for all the big tournaments, we need to manage them to make sure they are at their peak whenever they are available. We have had Tests in the UK since last year There is also a match and we need to make sure that we try and get the best team for that Test match.
“With such a hectic schedule, we have to understand that at times we need to rest our big players. We will not be able to field our strongest team all the time. It gives opportunities to the youngsters and our Adds depth to the team and gives us an opportunity to assess how good they are.”
India are one win away from setting a new world record for most consecutive wins in the shortest format of the game. In this Dravid says that he has not thought about the record.
