Punjab Energy Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO in a press statement said that during this year, Punjab State Electricity Corporation Limited has successfully met the increasing demand of power in Punjab by optimally utilizing its resources. From April to January 2023, the electricity demand in Punjab has increased by 12% (i.e. 60,762 MU vs 54,237 MU) compared to last year. To achieve this, apart from taking power from outside Punjab, Punjab State Power Corporation Limited has also increased power generation from its thermal and hydel plants.
It is noteworthy that Punjab State Power Corporation Limited’s thermal generation from its thermal plants at Ropar and Lehra has increased by 128% (6,229 million units versus 2,736 million units) during 2022 as compared to the previous year. Similarly, Punjab State Power Corporation Limited’s own projects and hydro generation from BBMB have also increased by 21% (3,567 MU vs 2,946 MU) and 13% (3,454 MU vs 3,067 MU) respectively over the previous year .
Punjab State Vidyut Nigam Limited, apart from increasing its power generation, has also significantly increased power banking with the states. Punjab State Power Corporation Limited has increased its banking exports by 83% (3,487 million units versus 1,917 million units), which has also increased the availability of under banking power. PSPCL 152% growth over the previous year (5,945 million units versus 2,361 million units). He further said that due to increased availability of power from internal sources and banking, Punjab State Electricity Corporation Limited has increased its short-term and long-term Ingi power purchase through interchange by 39% (5,935 MU vs 9,741 MU) ) has been able to reduce.

He said that not only this, the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited has also sold surplus power, which is 8 times more (368 million units as against 46 million units) compared to last year. He said that PSPCL is committed for regular and uninterrupted power supply. to its valuable power consumers during the upcoming paddy and summer season and in this regard necessary arrangements are being made by the Punjab Government on a war footing by the Punjab State Electricity Corporation Limited and the Punjab State Transmission Corporation Limited.
