Prominent female cyclist accuses Indian coach of inappropriate behavior

New Delhi, 7 June: A prominent female cyclist has accused national sprint team head coach RK Sharma of “inappropriate behavior” during a camp in Slovenia. It is reported that the cyclist was part of a preparatory camp ahead of the Asian Track Cycling Championships. This event is going to be held in Delhi from 18 to 22 June.

If reports are to be believed, the coach was appointed following the recommendation of the Cycling Federation of India (CFI). It is learned that the woman cyclist had sent a complaint to SAI (Sports Authority of India) through email.

The statement mentioned that the cyclist was brought back to India for his safety. SAI and CFI have now constituted separate inquiry committees to probe the matter in depth.

The statement said, “A cyclist has complained to the SAI about inappropriate behavior by a coach during a demonstration camp in Slovenia. The coach was appointed on the recommendation of the CFI. Following the athlete’s complaint, the SAI took his (cyclist’s) complaint.” ) To ensure safety, he was brought back to India immediately and a committee has also been constituted to investigate the matter. The matter is being dealt with on priority and will be resolved soon.’

Sharma has been working with the cycling team since 2014. Sharma is also a former Air Force HR manager, having worked with junior and senior cycling teams with great efficiency over the years.
