Tata Steel has started work on setting up its scrap based steel plant with an investment of Rs 2600 crore in the first phase at Ludhiana. During a meeting with Tata Group representatives in Mumbai, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said that this is just the beginning and the day is not far when we will make Punjab the country’s leading state in industrial development.

Congratulating the Tata Group for starting work on this prestigious project, the Chief Minister assured them of full cooperation in this project. He said that this project is the first investment made by this world-renowned company in the State and the second largest investment in the country after Jamshedpur. Bhagwant Mann expressed hope that the investment made by this big industrial group would take the state on a new path of industrial development and open new avenues of employment for the youth.

Earlier this agreement was limited to papers only.
The Chief Minister termed the initiative as the “beginning of a new era” as earlier the agreement was only on paper, but now work has started on the ground to promote the progress of the state.

Plant will be set up in 115 acres
The Chief Minister said that the Tata Group is investing about Rs 2,600 crore in the first phase of the project to be set up in Ludhiana, which is adjacent to the Hi-Tech Valley Industrial Park of the Punjab government. This prestigious project will prove to be a milestone in furthering industrial development in the state. The Chief Minister said that this electric ore furnace based plant will produce 0.75 MTPA.
