New York, 23 SeptemberThe four-nation grouping ‘Quad’ signed the ‘Humanitarian Assistance Disaster Relief Guidelines’ at a meeting of their foreign ministers here on Friday. India has welcomed the move, calling it a decision taken at the ‘right time’. At the same time, Indian External Affairs Minister Dr. S Jaishankar said that this meeting has been held at the right time as the world is facing very difficult situations.

Indian External Affairs Minister Dr. S Jaishankar said, “Given the difficult times, it is especially important that the Quad Groups move forward in the constructive agenda that we have set out for ourselves, that we are committed to distributing public goods. Let’s work together.” S Jaishankar said that our effort and especially the Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) partnership that we are signing today, which we have finalized in Tokyo, is extremely timely.

S Jaishankar said, we are taking more initiatives, STEM fellowship, we are working on economic framework although we have other partners beyond Quad on maritime domain awareness. It is a good idea to meet regularly on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in your countries. Jaishankar said, “Today, I think this is also an opportunity for us to discuss how to strengthen the multilateral system led by the United Nations.”

At the same time, in this meeting, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said that our meeting is proof that the Quad is getting stronger, strengthening our multilateral cooperation. He said that it gives us great pleasure to sign the document we have on Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief Guidelines.
