After this incident, the confrontation between Turkey and Sweden increased at the diplomatic level. On the other hand, the Swedish flag was set on fire in front of the Swedish Embassy in Turkey. Who is Rasmus Peludan?

Rasmus Peludan is a Danish-Swedish politician and lawyer. He is the leader of the Hard Line political party. Rasmus Peludan is also the elder brother of famous poet Tine Peludan and writer Martin Peludan. It is worth noting that Rasmus Peludan himself comes from an expatriate background as he was born in Denmark. However, his father was the Swedish journalist Tomas Polval. Because of which he got Swedish citizenship in 2020.

Rasmus Peludan and his party continue to oppose non-Western immigrants. They are also considered opponents of Islam. Many times he has also given provocative statements about Islam and immigrants. In the guise of this protest, Quran was targeted (burned) against Turkey for opposing Sweden for NATO membership. There is also a controversy that this Swedish organization has now gone on a tour of burning Quran. Photos and videos of Rasmus Peludan are going viral on social media. In all these, he is seen carrying a lighter and a Quran.

Since when did you try to burn the Quran?

Between September 2015 and August 2018 Rasmus Peludan was appointed as a faculty at the Department of Law Faculty of the University of Copenhagen, teaching the areas of civil law and property law. According to the Danish website ‘Information’, during this time in 2016, Rasmus Peludan participated in all demonstrations of the anti-Islamic group For Freehead, including attending meetings of the International ‘Free Press Society’. In 2017, Rasmus Peludan founded the Stram Kurs party, which holds views against Islam and non-Western immigrants. Rasmus Peludan strongly opposes non-Western immigrants and the presence of Islam in Denmark.

According to ‘The Guardian’ report, in April 2019, Peludan performed a performance in Viborg, Denmark. In which three people were arrested. On the other hand, in August 2020, Peludan made a complete plan to burn the Quran and announced. In protest against this, riots broke out during that time, tremendous demonstrations and arson took place. Then Rasmus Peludan was banned from entering Sweden for two years but in October he was granted Swedish citizenship due to his father’s citizenship. At the same time, on 21 January 2023, Rasmus Peludan had sought permission from the Swedish police to organize a demonstration in front of the Turkish Embassy in Stockholm. During this the Quran was set on fire.

Rasmus Peludan gets police protection

Turkish Muslims living in Sweden did not catch Peludan who burnt Quran but gave protection. He is angry about this. At the time when he was burning the Quran in front of the Turkish Embassy, ​​more than 100 people supporting him had united. Now even after burning the Quran, Rasmus Peludan got police protection because he had taken proper permission to perform. According to Swedish law, he has not done anything wrong. That’s why he is being given protection in terms of security.

OIC and Muslim countries came out in protest

On this incident in Sweden, Turkey’s Foreign Ministry has said in a statement that despite our repeated warnings, our holy book Quran was attacked in Sweden on 21 January. We condemn it in the strongest terms. It is completely wrong to allow this anti-Islamic act targeting Muslims and insulting our sacred values ​​under the guise of freedom of speech.

The OIC, an organization of Muslim countries, has protested against this. OIC has strongly condemned the incident of Quran burning. Pakistan also protested saying that the senseless and provocative Islamophobic act has hurt the religious sentiments of crores of Muslims. While Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Ministry said that Saudi Arabia, realizing the importance of dialogue, believes in taking it forward and rejects hatred, extremism. After this, countries like Qatar, Iran, Kuwait have also officially strongly condemned the burning of Quran in Sweden.
