Ranchi, November 28: In Jharkhand including Ranchi, maximum work has been done to improve the standard of living of street vendors. Ranchi is the only city in the country where three markets have been set up for permanent settlement of street vendors. There is a plan to make markets in eight zones. On the other hand, the worst situation in the country is that of Chhattisgarh, where no work has been done for the street vendors.

There the goods of the footpath shopkeepers were seized and burnt. In other states including Bengal-Manipur, 30 to 40 percent work has been done. This information was given by Anita Das, General Secretary of Ranchi Footpath Shopkeepers Hawker Association, while talking to reporters on Saturday. At the National Hawker Summit program at the Vendor Market located at Kachari Road, representatives from different states consulted on improving the standard of living of street vendors.

Shaktiman Ghosh, general secretary of the National Hawker Federation, said that the Jharkhand government has done an excellent job in rehabilitating the street vendors.
