Recently State Bank of India i.e. SBI released its latest ECOWRAP report, in which there is a relief news for the general public. Through the report, the bank said that India’s retail inflation rate based on the Consumer Price Index will come down to 5 percent by March 2023. Average retail inflation for January-March 2023 is estimated at 4.7 per cent.

According to the latest data released by the Ministry of Statistics, retail inflation stood at 5.72 per cent in December, while the latest data released on Thursday showed a marginal decline and further reduction in retail inflation as compared to the previous month. On the other hand, retail inflation was 5.88 percent in November, while it was 6.77 percent in October. According to the report, retail inflation in India remained above 6 per cent for three quarters till October, which is above the RBI’s comfort zone.

In the matter, Soumya Kanti Ghosh, Chief Economic Adviser, State Bank of India, said that CPI inflation came down to 12-month low of 5.72 per cent in December 22. The reason for this was the fall in the prices of vegetables and good weather at the time of sowing. He further said that against the changing scenario, we see little incentive to increase the repo rate.
