Revenue of Telangana urban bodies increased: RBI

The Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has a huge debt, yet the urban bodies of Telangana are performing well and are the third largest contributor to the state’s Gross State Domestic Product. Not only this, Warangal, Khammam and Karimnagar are also doing very well in terms of tax collection and collecting good revenue. Telangana is the third state after Bihar and Andhra Pradesh to increase its expenditure on real estate enhancement and other development works by 0.37 per cent in the financial year 2019-20, according to the latest Reserve Bank of India Municipal Finances report. While Bihar has achieved the target of 0.84 percent and Andhra Pradesh has achieved 0.60 percent.

Explain that the higher the expenditure of capital in the budget, the better will be the development of any body. Telangana has gradually increased capital expenditure in municipalities over the years. Total expenditure on the body was 0.18 per cent of Telangana’s GSDP in 2017-18, 0.35 per cent in 2018-19, while it has increased to 0.37 per cent in 2019-20. Another interesting aspect is that both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh are the only states that have allowed the body to take bank loans. Talking about civic law in India, civic bodies can take loans from banks only with the permission of the state government.
