New Delhi. Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant revealed the reason behind taking up the wicketkeeping role in cricket and said that he was inspired by his father. Pant has been an important player of the Indian team for the last few years. He made his way in by replacing the great MS Dhoni, who did not appear in the game after the 2019 World Cup. Pant has also set an example by leading Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League. The 24-year-old Pant will now feature in the five-match T20I home series against South Africa starting on June 9 (Thursday).
Pant said on the SG podcast, “I don’t know whether my wicketkeeping has improved or not. I am trying to give my 100 per cent every day. I was always a wicketkeeper-batsman. I started keeping wickets from the beginning because My father was also a wicketkeeper. That’s how it all started.” Pant has won many important matches for the Indian team in the last few years. One of the best wins of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia was an unbeaten knock of 89* (138) in the second innings of the Gabba Test, helping India win the series.

“If you want to be a good wicketkeeper, you need to keep yourself fit. If you are smart enough, this will help you. The second thing is that you have to watch the ball till the end. Sometimes it happens that we know the ball is coming, so we loose, but you must keep watching until you catch it. Be disciplined and work on the technique.”
Let us tell you that Pant is now an important part of the Indian team across all formats and has been a part of almost all India series ever since the teams started playing in the situation of Kovid-19 pandemic. Talking about keeping the mind fresh in the midst of a busy schedule, he said, “When you play throughout the year, you want to refresh your mind. Especially when you play continuously under pressure. If you can’t, then you won’t be able to give your 100 per cent. As cricketers we need to keep working on our mind and stay fresh.”
