Shahpur Assembly Seat: Voting is to be held on November 12 for the Himachal assembly elections. Before voting, all political parties, including the ruling party BJP, have started campaigning on a war footing to make voters in their favor. So right there, today we are talking about Shahpur Assembly seat. Shahpur seat is considered a BJP stronghold and Sarveen Chaudhary has occupied this seat for the last three decades. So at the same time, Congress has fielded Kewal Singh Pathania and AAP has fielded Abhishek Thakur against Sarveen Chaudhary.

Shahpur assembly seat

Shahpur seat is an important seat of Kangra district. Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself had landed in this seat on Wednesday in the election campaign of BJP candidate Sarveen Chaudhary. During this, Major Vijay Singh Mankotia, who was a staunch opponent of Sarveen, was also present on the stage with him. This time Mankotia has left Congress and joined BJP and has become a fan of Sarveen Chaudhary. However, in Shahpur, there has been a fight between Congress leader Major Vijay Singh Mankotia and Sarveen Chaudhary of BJP. Sarveen Chaudhary would have been the only minister in the Jai Ram Thakur government, against whom people kept making allegations. Major Mankotia himself accused Sarveen of corruption and the matter went to the PMO. But, regardless of his opponents, Sarveen managed to get a BJP ticket and his arch rival Major Mankotia also joined him.

Sarveen Chaudhary did not inherit politics. 56-year-old Sarveen was born in Dharamsala. She was married to Brigadier Pawan Kumar after completing her master’s degree. He has a son. Sarveen also studied in Panjab University. Entered politics in 1992. In 1998, Sarveen was elected MLA for the first time. After that in 2007, Prem Kumar was Parliamentary Secretary in the Dhumal government from 1998 to 2003. From 2008 to 2012, she was the Minister of Social Empowerment in the state. Elected MLA for the third time in 2012. She then won the election in 2017 and became a cabinet minister in the Jairam government.

Shahpur is seat number 17 in the Himachal Pradesh Vidhan Sabha that comes under the Kangra Parliamentary Constituency. During the delimitation of the assembly, there was some change in Shahpur Halka. During that time some part of Kangra Sadar was found in Shahpur and some Panchayats of Dharamshala came to Shahpur. The Sarahan area went to Dharamsala. The Naddi, Sudhed and Gharoh Panchayats of Dharamshala came to the Lunge area in Shahpur. The Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes have about 28 percent voters in Shahpur. While OBCs make up 25 per cent of the fraternity, Rajput voters make up 20 per cent. While Brahmins are 12 per cent. Shahpur also has voters of Gaddi community as part of Dharamsala is merged here.

Whenever Rajput and Brahmin voters united, Mankotia won. Sarveen Choudhary won the election when the voters of SC-ST castes came together with the OBC fraternity. This time things have changed. Mankotia has now joined BJP. Which has benefited Sarveen. With this new alliance, the political future of Congress’ Kewal Singh Pathania is again at stake. Pathania was given ticket by the party twice. But lost the elections badly both times and are trying their luck again. BJP is competing with Congress and AAP this time.
