The DoPT has asked Somesh Kumar to join the Andhra Pradesh government by January 12. The Hyderabad bench of CAT had passed an order allotting Telangana to Somesh Kumar on March 29, 2016. After the bifurcation of united Andhra Pradesh into the two separate states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana in 2014, the central government reallocated IAS and IPS officers working in the undivided state to the remaining state of Andhra Pradesh and the newly created Telangana Was.
In the process, Somesh Kumar, a 1989 batch IAS officer, was allotted Andhra Pradesh by the DoPT. However, Somesh Kumar had approached CAT and obtained an order to stay his allotment to Andhra Pradesh cadre. Since then, he has remained in Telangana and became the Chief Secretary in 2019.
