Cocaine seized at Delhi airport

Customs officials seized 85 oval-shaped capsules of cocaine worth approximately Rs 11.28 crore at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI). The Brazilian national was arrested after the cocaine capsules were seized. According to intelligence inputs, a Brazilian national who was traveling from Sao Paulo airport (Brazil) to Dubai arrived at Delhi airport. His luggage was then diverted to the Green Channel for X-rays.

Cocaine worth Rs 11 crore found in Brazilian passenger’s stomach
After checking the baggage, medical examination of the Brazilian citizen found some special material hidden inside the stomach. A total of 85 oval-shaped capsules containing a total of 752 grams of a white powdery substance suspected to contain narcotics were seized from the medical procedure. When this material was tested, prima facie it was found to contain large amounts of cocaine.

Arrest under these sections
The passenger violated the provisions of section 8 of the NDPS Act, 1985 and committed an offense punishable under section 21, section 23 and section 29 of the NDPS Act, 1985. According to the Customs officials, the said passenger was arrested on March 14 under Section 43(b) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985 and Section 43(a) of the NDPS Act, 1985.
