An all-party meeting chaired by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Saturday “rejected” the 103rd Constitutional Amendment proposed by the central government to provide for 10 per cent EWS quota. The all-party meeting said that this would lead to “caste discrimination” among the poor. At the same time, the main opposition party AIADMK and its ally BJP boycotted the meeting. Also, both the parties in the meeting urged the state government to firmly record its opinion on the review petition being filed.

At the same time, the ruling DMK had already announced that it would file a review petition against the five-judge Supreme Court bench of November 8, upholding the 10 per cent reservation for the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS). Let us tell you that the bench had upheld the quota 3-2 decision. 3 judges had ruled in favor of reservation. While 2 judges disagreed with the decision.

In the all-party meeting, DMK said that we reject the 103rd constitutional amendment, under which 10 percent reservation has been given to EWS candidates. DMK said that this amendment is constitutionally against social justice. Because this will violate the rights of the poor and caste discrimination will also arise.

Here, while talking to the reporters of the all-party meeting, Higher Education Minister K Ponmudi said that all those involved in the meeting chaired by the CM gave their support on this issue. In such a situation, the decision to give 10 percent reservation to EWS candidates has been quashed. He said the meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Stalin, was attended by DMK ally Congress, Left parties, MDMK and Viduthalai Chiruthigal Katchi (VCK), besides NDA constituent Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK).
