The last eight years have seen a sea change in the infrastructure development of Telangana. This is the result of the way the Telangana government has focused on strengthening the road network and building huge buildings like the new secretariat, integrated district office complexes.
The Government of Telangana has taken up four major programmes. These include providing double lane connectivity from divisional headquarters to district headquarters, increasing capacity through widening of some major district roads/state highways to two lanes, construction of bridges and ring roads/by-passes for major cities. Is.
At the time of formation of Telangana, the condition of road network was below the national average. Out of the total road length of 24,245 km, only 28 per cent road length i.e. 6,761 km of R&B roads in the State were double/four-lane/multi-lane. The quality of the roads was also not up to the standards.
Keeping in mind the fact that a better road network is the key to economic progress, the Government of Telangana focused on better road connectivity both on national highways as well as state roads. As a result, the national highway density which was 2.25 km/100 sq km in 2014 has now increased to 4.45 km/100 sq km in 2023.
Talking about the status of the road network in the state, during the last eight and a half years, double laning has increased from 6,093 km as on June 2, 2014 to 12,060 km. Similarly, four-lane and above which was only 669 km in 2014 has increased to 1,154 km.
