Hyderabad, Nov 11 – The Telangana government on Thursday constituted a committee to prepare guidelines for the safety of children in schools. The committee has been formed after a recent sexual harassment case came to light from a reputed school in Banjara Hills. Special Chief Secretary to the government, Labor and Employment Department will be the chairman, while Special Secretary to the government, Women and Child Development and Scheduled Castes, and Additional DGP (Women Security Wing) Swati Lakra will be the members of the committee.
Measures have been taken to prevent any untoward incident against children in schools in future. In October this year, a four-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted by the driver of a school principal’s car in Banjara Hills. The accused was arrested by the police on Tuesday and a case has been registered against him under sections 364, 376 (a) (b) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the POCSO Act. The accused person has been identified as Rajni Kumar, who used to work as a driver for the principal of DAV School in Banjara Hills. Kumar was allegedly repeatedly entering the digital classroom of the school and is accused of misbehaving with girl students by touching them inappropriately.
