A large number of trauma cases are reported in the district and teaching hospitals in Telangana on a daily basis, most of which do not recover and end up as deaths. Since the teaching hospitals were not declaring such patients as brain dead, the cadaver donor organs of the deceased were left unused. Despite not transplanting brain-dead cadaver organs, OGH has been at the forefront of performing live kidney transplants for the past decade. In total, OGH has performed more than 700 survival-related kidney transplants, of which anywhere from 300 to 400 kidney transplants were performed in the past decade.
