HYDERABAD: Neighboring Andhra Pradesh will have a ‘Prabhala Theertham’-themed tableau to be displayed during the Republic Day parade in Delhi on January 26, but Telangana will once again not feature in the event. In fact since the formation of the new state in 2014, Telangana’s tableau was selected for the parade only twice. These included once in 2015 (on the Bonalu theme) and later in 2020 (on the Saralamma theme, which was a combination of Bathukamma and Sammakka).
According to officials of the state’s Information and Public Relations (I&PR) department, Telangana did not even participate in the tableau meeting chaired by the Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Defense (MoD) in Delhi. However, the Defense Secretary had officially sent a message regarding the meeting much earlier. A source said, “The Telangana government ignored the request and decided not to go ahead with the tableau.”
An expert committee of the Ministry of Defense consisting of people from various disciplines such as art, culture, music and architecture is involved in the selection of tableau proposals received from various states. This year, the Union ministry had proposed three themes – India @ 75, International Year of Millets and Nari Shakti.
