Tesla company has been preparing to enter India for the last few years. Elon Musk himself has publicly commented several times to launch Tesla’s electric car in India. Many state governments have also invited Elon Musk to set up a plant at their place.

Elon Musk challenges Tesla to enter India

In the ongoing G-20 conference in Indonesia, Musk has once again expressed his desire to launch his electric car in the Indian market. Musk has talked about making affordable electric cars for markets like India and Indonesia.

Participating in the business forum meet of the G-20 summit, Elon Musk said that Tesla is planning to bring low-cost electric cars to India and Indonesia. The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the company said that cheap electric cars can be brought in the market of these two countries. At the same time, he said that we feel that making cheap vehicles will make a lot of sense and we have to do something for this.

Elon Musk had earlier also offered to launch Tesla electric car in India, but the government rejected Musk’s demand. Elon Musk had demanded the government to give a huge discount on Tesla’s electric car. The central government rejected Musk’s demand citing adequate participation of global vehicle makers as per the existing structure.

Government’s emphasis on local manufacturing

The Narendra Modi government at the center is asking Tesla to manufacture vehicles in India under its Make in India program, while Tesla is demanding the government to reduce the import tax on vehicle parts. However, the company has not yet shared any plans for local manufacturing and import of the electric car with the government.

According to some reports coming out, the Tesla company is in talks with the government to reduce the import tax on vehicles. Whereas, on the other hand, the government is asking Elon Musk’s company to manufacture instead of assembling parts in India.

100 percent import tax will be imposed on Tesla’s car!

The Indian government charges 100 percent import duty on imported cars with a cost, insurance and freight (CIF) value of more than $40,000 (around 32 lakh). Whereas, cars of less value than this attract a duty of 60 per cent.

The price of Tesla’s electric car starts from around Rs 35 lakh. In such a situation, the cost of Tesla’s cheapest electric car will be around Rs 70 lakh in India, which the common people will not be able to afford.

According to a report that came recently, Elon Musk had also demanded a meeting with PM Modi to reduce the tax on Tesla vehicles. Tesla manufactures its vehicles in America and China. Apart from these two countries, India can become the third major market for Tesla.

Tesla Motors Inc. was founded in the year 2003. Elon Musk has been in an active role with Tesla since 2005. The company is primarily known for manufacturing clean energy and automotive battery operated vehicles.

Tesla launched Autopilot i.e. Advanced Driver Assistance System in 2014. Since 2014, all Tesla vehicles have this sensor, which monitors the driver at all times. Apart from this, the company had announced full self-driving technology in 2017, which has not yet been brought practically.

Tesla’s advanced technology has cheated many times

This advanced technology of Tesla has also become the cause of vehicle accidents many times. Last year, an angry Tesla customer created a ruckus at the Shanghai Auto Show held in China. That customer had an accident due to a fault in the braking system of Tesla’s car.

At the same time, recently another video is going viral, in which the alleged Tesla car is seen running at an uncontrollable speed. This viral video is being told from China. According to the report, due to this, two people also lost their lives, including a schoolgirl.

However, Tesla said that at present the local police and third party appraisal agency are investigating the incident. The brake light of the car is not visible in the footage of the viral video, so the failure of the braking system behind this incident does not seem to be true. According to the report, it is a Tesla Model Y car that went out of control when the driver tried to park it at the local family store.

Tesla’s future in India

There are many possibilities for Tesla’s automatic car in India, but it can also prove to be dangerous for the congested roads here. Only last month, 5G services have started in India, which will prove to be a boon for autonomous technology. Tesla is trying to enter a big market like India, but this path is not going to be easy for Elon Musk’s company at the moment.
