The ‘fire retardant’ novel that fought for women abroad, is being auctioned for Rs 77.66 lakh

New Delhi, 07 June. An American novel which had record-breaking sales and also got banned. But now the same novel is being auctioned for more than Rs 77.64 lakh.

Writer Margaret Atwood wrote the dystopian novella in 1985 made from fireproof materials. Now it is being sold through auction. Its goal is to To raise awareness about the increasing number of book bans taking place in schools and libraries in the U.S.
The novel being turned blue was created and donated by Atwood publisher Penguin Random House. Proceeds from the auction of this book will go to the American NGO PEN. PEN is an NGO that works to oppose the ban on books.
Suzanne Nossel, chief executive officer of Penn America, said: “The fireproof version of the novel depicts a struggle we are facing. The American Library Association said last year there were 729 attempts to ban books from schools and libraries.
