Haryana Panchayat Poll: Again the issue of Panchayat elections in Haryana, the commission asked for time till number 30

Panchayat elections in Haryana are pending for two and a half years from the elections to be held around February 2021. The reason for the delay in the election were many petitions filed in the High Court and the Supreme Court for a long time regarding BC-A reservation, 50 percent seats for women, reservation for seats on odd-even basis. Due to which the elections kept getting postponed. In this episode, future candidates of villages are also waiting. In March-April this year, after giving green signal to the High Court elections, the government had given instructions to the State Election Commission to prepare for the elections, for which a time limit was also fixed. But then a new twist came in the hand of the Backward Classes Commission’s report on giving reservation to the BC-A for the Panchayat elections to the government. Due to which the election is getting delayed. Because according to the information received, the reservation of seats for BC-A and other classes has not been done in Haryana so far.

At the same time, the Election Commission, through a letter, demanded data related to Backward Class-A by 22 September 2022 from the state government so that it can conduct elections before 30 November 2022. In the hearing held on 08 September 2022 regarding the Haryana Panchayat elections, the High Court has refused to stay the Panchayat elections. Let us inform that on Friday, Chief Election Commissioner Dhanpat Singh has written a letter to the Additional Chief Secretary, Development and Panchayat Department, seeking the details of reserved seats till September 22. It is believed that one of the reasons for the postponement of elections is the delay in the re-delimitation of Panchayat Samiti and Zilla Parishad. The State Election Commission has written in its letter that the Development and Panchayat Department should give the details of the seats reserved for Panch, Sarpanch, Panchayat Samiti, Zilla Parishad member besides the seats reserved for the committee and Zilla Parishad chairman.
