Imran’s role in India-Pakistan relations

Relations between India and Pakistan worsened when 40 Indian security personnel were killed in a suicide bombing in February 2019.

The relations between the two countries further deteriorated when India removed Article 370 in Kashmir and made it a Union Territory.

The Imran Khan government called this move of the Indian government an attack on “Kashmir and its people”. Bilateral trade between India and Pakistan is closed after this incident.

This became a new reason for increasing tension between the two nuclear-armed countries.

Will Indo-Pak relations improve?

Pakistan’s growing friendship with China has also become a headache for India. In 2020, there has been a clash between the soldiers of India and China over the border dispute.

Anil Trigunayat, a former Indian diplomat, says, “Imran is a well-liked person here. But recently his popularity in India has dwindled due to the dispute between the two countries.”

In a conversation with the BBC, he says, “When you become the leader of a country and take steps against a country, then the feeling of brotherhood created by cricket gets hurt.”

He says, “If India’s opposition remains in the politics of Pakistan, then one should not expect much change in the relationship between the two countries.”

But in India, Imran Khan keeps an eye on him, whether the reason is good or bad.
