Tomato’s bumper yield reduced the price
Due to bumper production of tomatoes in the fields of farmers of Chhattisgarh and sale of tomatoes in local mandis, prices have started coming down. Apart from this, farmers got good prices of tomatoes in the same season last year. Due to which most of the farmers have planted tomato crop this time. Farmer Santosh Patel, who cultivates vegetables in village Mohtra, told that this time the harvesting of tomatoes has been expedited. Because in this season the prices fall rapidly. This time due to rain, there has been a problem in getting the crop. Tomato flowers were falling due to rain. The fruits were getting sick.

5000 farmers of Dhamdha region do tomato cultivation
Similarly, Dhamdha block of Durg district is famous for tomato cultivation. Most of the farmers here cultivate tomatoes in the fields as horticultural crops. According to the Agriculture Department, 5000 small and big farmers cultivate tomatoes in about 9500 hectares in Durg district. About one lakh metric tonnes of tomatoes are produced every year. The demand for tomatoes here remains in the vegetable markets of Delhi, Mumbai, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal and UP.

Tomatoes reach Rs 20 forts, and the price will fall
In the months of December and January last year, tomatoes were sold for Rs 40 to 50 per kg. At the same time, brokers are now buying tomatoes from the farmers’ fields for Rs 10 per fort. Tomato remained till Rs 50 a kg till a month ago. The arrival of these tomatoes in the local mandis has reduced the prices of tomatoes in the markets. Due to the high production of tomatoes and falling prices in the Dhamdha region, farmers are unable to get proper prices, due to which they have to pluck tomatoes and throw them away. Not only this, they cannot even meet the cost of harvesting.
