This is the case of 28 June
According to the report of India Today, this matter is of Shatabdi Express running between Delhi and Bhopal on June 28. A passenger traveling in this train paid Rs 70 to the railways for a cup of tea, out of which Rs 50 was service tax and the original price of tea was Rs 20. The person told people about this hi-fi service of the railway through social media. The man uploaded the tea bill on social media and now it has become viral.
Social media users reactions
Uploading this bill on social media, the person has written, ‘GST of Rs 50 on tea of Rs 20. Altogether the cost of one tea is Rs 70. Is this amazing loot?’ Many people have different opinions about this bill. A user has said that the GST of Rs 50 on tea worth Rs 20 is too high. At the same time, a user has said that it is not GST, it is only service charge which is levied on any food item.
Railway clarification on the matter
An explanation has also been given by the Railways on this matter. According to railway officials, no extra charge has been taken from the customer. A circular issued by the Indian Railways in 2018 states that when a passenger makes a booking for food while traveling in reservation in trains like Rajdhani or Shatabdi, a service tax of Rs 50 will be charged for ordering tea, coffee or food during that time. Have to give even if it is just a cup of tea.
