Vikram-S Rocket Launch:
The Indian Space Research Organization created a new history with the launch of a Vikram-S rocket on Friday. In fact, Vikram-S is India’s first privately built rocket which was launched by ISRO from its spaceport at Sriharikota, about 115 km from Chennai. Let’s know about the team of scientists behind this successful launch, who worked day and night to bring India to this point.

Vikram-S Rocket Launch

The team of scientists worked day and night
Hyderabad-based startup Skyroot Aerospace on Friday became the first Indian company to launch a rocket – Vikram-S, a small, single-stage launch vehicle – from the Sounding Rocket Complex at ISRO’s spaceport in Sriharikota. Pawan Kumar Chandna, an IIT-Kharagpur alumnus, holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and a master’s degree in thermal science and engineering. Prior to this, he worked for six years at ISRO’s premier rocket manufacturing facility, Vikram Sarabhai Space Center (VSSC). The projects in which he was involved included the GSLV-Mk III (LMVM3), the largest rocket ever built by ISRO.

All the experts in the scientists team
Apart from Pawan Kumar Chandna, Gyangandhi V, Easwaran VG, Selvaraju S were included in this team. Gyangandhi V has over 40 years of experience. He is a Padma Shri awardee. He is considered one of the pioneers of cryogenic rocket technology in India. While Easwaran VG was the former project director of the world’s third largest solid fueled rocket stage (on GSLV-Mk3 or LVM3). Selvaraju has the expertise to verify the quality of more than 50 mission launches. He is the former Director of Systems Reliability and Quality Directorate at ISRO Headquarters.

ISRO’s next plan
The company will now focus on further tests of the various systems that go into Vikram-I, the first of three full-fledged rockets it plans to build and launch. The firm plans to perform multiple launch missions in the coming years, and according to its internal targets, it expects to perform 18 launches in 2026 and generate more than $100 million in revenue. Growth will be gradual until 2026, with four launches targeted next year, eight in 2024 and 12 in 2025.

What did ISRO say?
ISRO said that the technical architecture of the launch vehicle Vikram is capable of multi-orbit insertion and interplanetary missions. Scientists have described this rocket launch as a demonstration. He says that the company’s objective right now is to launch suborbitals that meet all the parameters of all space missions. Pawan Kumar Chandanam, co-founder, Skyroot Aerospace, said, “Today we created history by launching India’s first private rocket. It is a symbol of New India and the beginning of a bright future for the country”.

Why is Vikram-S rocket launch important?
Orbital Class Space Launch Vehicles will be helpful in testing most of the technologies of Vikram series. Due to which this Vikram-S rocket launch mission is being considered as a milestone for Skyroot Aerospace. The launch vehicle was named after late Dr. Vikram Sarabhai, the father of the Indian space programme. This was done to honor and pay tribute to him. A Skyroute official said the six-metre-tall rocket is one of the very few in the world to have 3-D printed solid thrusters for spin stability of the launch vehicle.
