Voice of Global South Summit:
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday addressed the concluding session of the Voice of Global South Summit. During this he said that in the last two days this summit has seen the participation of more than 120 developing countries. The Global South witnessed the largest ever virtual gathering. PM Modi said that I am honored to have your company in this concluding session.

In the Voice of Global South Summit, PM Modi said that the last 3 years have been very difficult. Especially for us developing countries, it has been very difficult. The challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, rising prices of fuel, fertilizers and food grains and rising geopolitical tensions have impacted our development efforts.

Earlier, while addressing the inaugural session on Thursday, PM Modi also mentioned various global challenges arising due to war and terrorism. PM Modi said that the world is currently passing through a crisis situation. It is difficult to predict how long this crisis will last. During his address, PM Modi expressed concern over rising prices of food, fuel and fertilisers, the economic impact of COVID-19 as well as natural disasters arising out of climate change.

During his address in the presence of several leaders from various developing countries, PM Modi said that it is clear that the world is in a state of crisis. Most of these global challenges have not originated from the Global South. These challenges affect us nonetheless. PM Modi said that India has always shared its development experience with its “brothers from the Global South”.

The PM said that as India begins its G-20 chairmanship this year. It is natural, then, that we aim to amplify the voice of the Global South. Let us tell you that India is hosting a two-day summit to bring together the countries of the Global South. The conference provides a common platform to share their common concerns related to various global challenges including food and energy security arising out of the Ukraine conflict.
