In an Instagram post, Radhika wrote, “I was born with a crooked neck. I have been made fun of since childhood. Being born with a crooked neck was not enough to put me out of the house. I was in school. Always unknown to everyone and a new baby. Dad was a diplomat. Before coming to Nigeria, I lived in Pakistan, New York and Delhi. Seeing my Indian accent, I was named ‘Apu’ in school, one of the Simpsons deserved it.”

‘Used to be compared to mother’
Radhika Gupta further adds, “I was always compared to my mother in my school, she was a very beautiful and stunning woman. I was told how ugly I looked in comparison to them. My confidence in school has always been low.

Was about to commit suicide at the age of 22 for not getting a job
Radhika Gupta further said, “When I was rejected from my 7th job at the age of 22, I looked out the window and said, ‘I will jump and give my charity.’ Ray friend called for help and I was taken to a psychiatric ward, where it turned out that I was very disappointed with my life. But they let me go soon because I had one last job interview left. After that, that day I got that job.

Told how India came?
Radhika Gupta further said, “Everything was going well in my life, everything was on track. But after 3 years from the financial crisis in 2008, I decided to come to India. So at the age of 25, I came to India and started my own wealth management firm with my husband and friend.

Edelweiss MF changed lives
Radhika added, “A few years later, our company was acquired by Edelweiss MF. I was starting to climb the ladder of success. I wanted to raise my hand for opportunities. However, when the talk of appointing a new CEO at Edelweiss MF started, I was hesitant, but my husband encouraged me and said ‘You are the perfect job!’

‘I told my boss – I want to be CEO…’
Radhika Gupta further said, “I told my boss, ‘I want to be the CEO. I lack experience, but I am one who works with passion. After saying this, I applied for CEO. And a few months later, at the age of 33, I became one of the youngest CEOs in India and I was overjoyed.”

‘People know me as the girl with the broken neck’…
Radhika Gupta added, “The next year as soon as I became CEO, I was invited to speak at an event – I shared my childhood insecurities and suicide attempt. I spoke everything openly there, people were inspired by my words. I came to be known as the ‘girl with the broken neck’. People shared their stories with me. It gave me the confidence to fully embrace my ‘flaws’. And in the last 4 years, I have told my story to everyone. I even wrote a book – LIMITLESS!

‘It is not to be a CEO, but the biggest achievement of my life is to accept myself…’
Radhika Gupta further added, “But my biggest achievement is not to be the CEO in a company, but my biggest achievement is to accept myself as imperfect but beautiful. So now, when I get comments on my looks, all I can say is, ‘Yeah, I have a twinkle in my eye, and a broken neck. What’s unique about you?”
