As feared, tensions between Israel and Palestine have risen once again with Benjamin Netanyahu taking over as prime minister. Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir has ordered police to ban Palestinian flags from public places. Itamar Ben Gvir took office late last month. Let us inform that till now it was not illegal to hoist the Palestinian flag in Israel.
Gvir had entered the mosque of Muslims
Itamar Ben-Gvir, Israel’s far-right leader and the country’s national security minister, also hit the headlines last week when he entered Al-Aqsa, the third holiest place of worship for Muslims. Ben-Gvir announced on Twitter, “Today I have instructed Israeli police to prohibit the raising of the Palestinian flag anywhere throughout the country. Flying this flag shows identification with the terrorist organization. Any kind of incitement against will be prevented from spreading.”
What is the whole matter?
Following Ben-Gvir’s latest order, 20 percent of Palestinians living in Israel are barred from raising their flag. In fact, after the release of a Palestinian prisoner last week, the Palestinian flag was put up everywhere to welcome him in his village. That prisoner was convicted of killing an Israeli soldier 40 years earlier. Seeing his reception, Ben-Gvir took this decision. He said that terrorists breaking the law cannot be allowed to hoist the flag.
