WhatsApp banned over 1.6 million Indian accounts in April for violating the platform’s guidelines. The information for the period from 1st April 2022 to 30th April 2022 has been recorded in the report.

Meta company’s instant messaging platform WhatsApp has released the monthly report for the month of April under the Information Technology (Intermediate Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021. The latest report shows that WhatsApp banned over 1.6 million Indian accounts in April for violating the platform’s guidelines. The information for the period from 1st April 2022 to 30th April 2022 is recorded in the report

Commenting on the matter, a WhatsApp spokesperson said, “WhatsApp is an industry leader in preventing abuse among end-to-end encrypted messaging services. Over the past few years, we have focused on keeping our users safe on our platform. For Artificial Intelligence and other cutting-edge technology, data scientists and experts have consistently invested in processes and processes.”

The spokesperson further said “As per IT Rules 2021, we have published our report for the month of April 2022. This user-safety report contains details of user complaints and related action taken by WhatsApp as well as WhatsApp’s own Preventive actions include. Combat abuse on our platform. WhatsApp banned over 1.6 million accounts in the month of April, as recorded in the latest monthly report.

WhatsApp generally bans accounts for violating company policies and guidelines. Some examples in which a WhatsApp account can be banned are sharing false information, forwarding an unverified message to multiple contacts, and more. To counter the spread of fake news on the platform, the messaging platform has taken several initiatives including verifying external links and much more. The platform also flags messages that have been forwarded multiple times, which in most cases turn out to be fake.
