New Delhi, 01 October. German car company Mercedes-Benz India launched its first locally assembled car, the EQS 580 4MATIC EV, in Pune. On this occasion, Nitin Gadkari said that there is a huge market for electric vehicles in the country. He urged the company to work towards reducing the price of cars in India.

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari told Mercedes-Benz that it should produce more cars in India. So that low cost cars can be available here. He arrived at the launch of the EQS 580 4MATIC EV, the first locally assembled car from German premium carmaker Mercedes-Benz on Friday. Here he emphasized on how German car company Mercedes-Benz can provide affordable cars in India. He said that the German car company urged to increase the production of cars in India. Gadkari said that if such steps are taken, the cost of the car will come down.

Speaking on the rollout of Mercedes Benz’s new modern car EQS 580 4MATIC EV, Road Transport and Highways Minister Gadkari said that there is a huge market for electric vehicles in the country.
According to Gadkari, there are a total of 15.7 lakh registered electric vehicles in the country. EV sales in India have registered a growth of 335 percent. He said that with the introduction of express highways in the country, Mercedes-Benz India will get a good market for these cars.

The size of Indian automobiles currently stands at Rs 7.8 lakh crore, of which exports are Rs 3.5 lakh crore. Gadkari said that my dream is to make it a Rs 15 lakh crore industry. The minister told the foreign car company, “If you increase production, then it is possible to reduce the cost. We are middle class people, even I cannot buy your car.” The latest model from the German carmaker is the EQS 580 4MATIC Electric. It comes with a price tag of ₹ 1.55 crore. The car has a range of 857 kms. It is powered by a high quality lithium-ion battery.
